A customizable wired IEM with three acoustic settings and both analog plugs. Independent measurements show low distortion but a colored frequency balance. No cheaper complete alternative with equivalent measured performance was established.

Overview

CVJ NOZOMI is a three-driver wired in-ear monitor with magnetic interchangeable faceplates, three acoustic tuning nozzles, and a detachable 0.78mm two-pin cable. Both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs are included. The Silver version has no microphone; its customization combines acoustic adjustment with character-themed visual design [1][2].

Scientific Validity

\[\Large \text{0.6}\]

The published specifications are 20Hz–20kHz, 15Ω, and 90dB sensitivity; the sensitivity reference is unspecified, so it cannot be converted reliably into a drive-voltage requirement [1]. Independent Soundcheck39 curves give an approximate Harman-target error standard deviation of 2.7dB with Gold, 2.9dB with Silver, and 3.2dB with Black. These are calculations from the displayed left/right-average curves over 20Hz–10kHz, using equally spaced logarithmic-frequency samples and removing the mean level offset [3]. Bass and lower mids are emphasized relative to the target, while the nozzles change the upper mids and treble. The result supports moderate tonal accuracy rather than a neutral response. The target revision, calibration and insertion repeatability are not documented, so these estimates should not be treated as interchangeable with results from every measurement rig.

A contributor’s iXBT Live measurements, described as IEC 60318-4, report a maximum THD of 0.16% [4]. Reading the distortion and fundamental curves together gives roughly 0.06% around 1kHz, where the trace approaches the plot’s noise floor; this is an approximate reading, not a precise laboratory result. The fundamental is about 92dB SPL at 1kHz and higher in the bass. This is favorable distortion performance at the tested level, although it does not establish performance at much higher volumes. The response graphs also confirm that changing nozzles changes the sound. Passive isolation has not been quantified in the available measurements.

Technology Level

CVJ describes its own crossover redesign, allocating different frequency roles to the transducers and detailing the air-chamber and magnetic arrangements [2]. This is specific design work, although no adopted patent was substantiated. Passive transducers, acoustic filtering, detachable cables, and replaceable plugs are mature technologies. The tuning is entirely analog/mechanical, without digital processing or software integration. The available design descriptions do not establish the development effort needed to reproduce its crossover and acoustic integration.

NOZOMI Silver is offered new by CVJ Direct Store on Amazon US for 91.97 USD [1]. The relevant combination is adjustable sound without dependence on source software, detachable cabling, both 3.5mm and 4.4mm analog connections, and its measured frequency response and distortion. Among the worldwide offers examined, NOZOMI itself is the cheapest confirmed complete option; no cheaper equivalent was established even with accessory combinations, so CP is provisionally 1.0. These are item prices; US destination taxes and any delivery charge need checking with the seller.

HIDIZS MP145 at Linsoul’s regular 159 USD plus a 9.99 USD Tripowin Karen 0.78mm/4.4mm cable totals 168.99 USD. The supplied 3.5mm cable and three nozzles cover the connection and adjustment functions. MP145 is listed as a preorder with a 2–3-week estimate; standard shipping is free for eligible destinations, with taxes and exceptions separate [6]. ASR’s default-nozzle sample shows roughly 2.5dB error against the same target and THD around or below 0.1% across the plotted band at its 94dB reference level. However, Soundcheck39’s default Pink-nozzle sample gives about 3.1dB error, worse than NOZOMI Gold. Different rigs, samples and level references prevent a firm claim of equal-or-better response; MP145 is a more expensive candidate with favorable distortion, not a confirmed superior substitute [3][7].

TRN Conch covers the tuning and plug functions, but comparable measured distortion was not found [5]. Twistura D-Minor’s published 94dB-at-500Hz graph shows about 0.2–0.4% THD in the lowest bass, so its good 1kHz result alone does not establish equivalence to NOZOMI; the different test levels also limit that comparison [9]. Adding a second cable can supply a missing plug, but source software or a USB-only EQ device cannot provide sound adjustment when an earphone is connected to an arbitrary analog source.

Reliability & Support

\[\Large \text{0.4}\]

CVJ’s general headphone warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year [8]. A metal housing and replaceable cable are useful, but do not by themselves establish unusually high durability. Model-specific failure-rate statistics, a long-term spare-parts commitment, repair charges, and a manufacturer-operated regional repair network were not substantiated. Confirm the seller’s warranty handling and return conditions before purchase; retail availability alone does not establish the quality or speed of repair support.

Rationality of Design Philosophy

\[\Large \text{0.6}\]

The acoustic nozzles use different damping/mesh arrangements to offer a practical change in frequency balance without an external processor [2][4]. Replaceable cables and both analog plugs also serve maintenance and connection needs. This gives the design a rational functional core. Magnetic faceplates and character artwork provide visual customization, which is separate from fidelity. Neither the number of transducers nor cable plating alone establishes better sound.

Advice

Consider NOZOMI if source-independent sound adjustment and both analog plugs are useful to you. Gold has the smallest target deviation in the measured sample, but all three settings retain a pronounced tonal balance; try the nozzles with a reliable ear-tip seal. Distortion is low at the published test level, without a guarantee at every volume. Its value is strongest when the complete connection and tuning functions are needed. Check fit, returns and the seller’s one-year warranty handling before purchase.
