Venus combines three connection formats with reasonably close measured Harman-target tracking. A less expensive complete earphone-and-adapter combination offers comparable documented functionality, while Venus distortion and USB-output measurements remain unavailable.

Overview

Melody Wings Venus is the brand’s debut in-ear monitor, released in Japan on July 4, 2025 [2][4]. This review covers the standard birch-faceplate version. It combines a 10mm beryllium-plated dynamic driver with three balanced armatures and a three-way crossover in a HeyGears PAU20 resin shell. Its detachable 0.78mm 2-pin cable includes interchangeable 3.5mm, 4.4mm and USB-C plugs [1][2]. The standard cable has no microphone or inline controls. The current new price at Bloom Audio is 168 USD [1].

Scientific Validity

Manufacturer specifications are 32Ω and 108dB/mW at 1kHz, with a stated 20Hz–20kHz range [2]. The manufacturer also publishes a response graph, although its rig, level and target are unspecified [3]. Our approximate Harman-target error STD calculated from independent Aftersound curves is 1.8dB [5]: 20Hz–10kHz, 481 logarithmically spaced points, left/right averaged in dB, displayed smoothing setting 5, and mean error removed. This is our curve-derived estimate, not a statistic published by the measurer. Bass elevation, an upper-midrange shortfall and the peak near 5kHz remain; features around 8kHz are sensitive to insertion and ear-simulator resonance.

This supports reasonably accurate overall tonal balance. Independent THD, IMD, isolation and USB-output noise/distortion results were not located. The acoustic response curves do not establish the bundled USB-C converter’s performance or its maximum supported PCM rate. Venus-specific MQA decoding is not documented in the cited official specifications.

The hybrid drivers, passive crossover and precision resin printing are mature engineering techniques [2][3]. The manufacturer describes an internal R&D team led by a structural engineer with more than ten years of acoustic-design experience, using 3D modeling, rapid prototypes and SoundCheck testing [11]. Venus’s repeatedly revised shell geometry and custom acoustic integration provide concrete evidence of this design work [2]. This represents accumulated engineering know-how, although no adopted proprietary patent or durable technical barrier is established. The USB-C plug adds digital-to-analog conversion to the passive earpieces [1][2]; no advanced software or DSP integration is documented. Its reproducible implementation does not establish technical leadership merely through diaphragm coating or driver count.

Cost-Performance

This site evaluates based solely on functionality and measured performance values, without considering driver types or configurations.

Venus costs 168 USD new [1]. The lowest-priced complete combination identified for its documented listening and connection functions is 7HZ Salnotes Zero at 20.99 USD [6], a MOONDROP OldFashioned Dedicated Audio Cable in the 4.4mm/0.78mm 2-pin version at 9.99 USD [7], and an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter at 9 USD [8], totaling 39.98 USD. The supplied Salnotes Zero cable retains 3.5mm operation, the additional cable provides balanced connection, and the Apple adapter provides USB-C playback. Switching to balanced operation requires changing the cable rather than only its end plug. Both earphones provide replaceable connections without wireless, ANC or a microphone [1][6]. The additional cable is orderable with an estimated 7–10-day preorder period. These are regular new prices, using Apple’s free delivery and assuming Linsoul’s free Standard Shipping applies to the US destination; location-specific taxes, import charges and any shipping surcharge are additional [6][7][8].

Aftersound’s measurements yield approximately 1.4dB Harman-error STD for Salnotes Zero using the same method as Venus’s 1.8dB [5]. ASR’s separate measurements show Salnotes Zero THD below approximately 0.1% from 20Hz to 10kHz at 94dB SPL [9]. The provisional comparison therefore preserves the documented connections and improves the measured response-error metric. Venus lacks comparable distortion, isolation and USB-output data, so superiority on those unmeasured axes is not claimed.

CP = 39.98 USD ÷ 168 USD = 0.2380

Reliability & Support

\[\Large \text{0.5}\]

The documented warranty is one year, stated by both the Japanese retailer and Jaben’s authorized-distributor listing [4][10]. Manufacturer and Japanese-brand websites provide contact routes, while purchase and warranty handling remain dealer-led [2][3]. The battery-free earpieces have no hinges or user-operated mechanisms; the resin shell and stainless-steel nozzle also support mechanical durability [2]. The cable and USB-C conversion plug are removable, making damage to those external parts serviceable without replacing the earpieces. Long-term internal parts availability, repair pricing and statistical failure rates are not established. The construction is favorable for longevity, but does not establish a measured failure-rate advantage.

Rationality of Design Philosophy

\[\Large \text{0.3}\]

Integrating analog and USB-C connection choices into a compact package serves a practical purpose. Precision printing also provides a reasonable route to repeatable shell geometry [2]. However, the tuning explanation explicitly centers on emotional expression [3]. The manufacturer’s claim that OCC supplies fuller bass while silver plating supplies transparency assigns tonal properties to cable materials without establishing a scientific mechanism or controlled audible benefit [3]. That claim is distinct from the useful electrical and mechanical role of the cable.

Advice

Venus is a practical option for changing between analog and USB-C sources, with measured response that is reasonably close to the Harman target. Audition with suitable tips because fit and insertion affect treble. Salnotes Zero with the listed cable and adapter offers the documented connections at a substantially lower total price, although its cable-changing procedure is less convenient. Check USB compatibility with the intended device, and distinguish verified response measurements from the still-unmeasured distortion and bundled-DAC performance.
